Allan Harris performs song from his highly anticipated new recording, recently selected by the Denver organization “Pathways to Jazz” as the 2019 recipient of their annual jazz grant.  This album, entitled “Kate’s Soul Food” is slated for a 2021 release. Featuring all original songs penned by Harris, it highlights his uniquely soulful jazz and blues influences by paying homage to his Aunt Kate who’s restaurant “Kate’s Home Cooking” located near the Apollo Theater, was where the Apollo performers dined when they were in Harlem.

This restaurant was a huge influence on Harris’ childhood where he spent Sunday afternoons at the matinees dining among celebrities like Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.  In fact, it was so popular that Jimmy Smith featured it on his 1959 album Home Cookin’.  In composing the new songs for this recording, Harris also pays homage to the two other women in his life, his mother who was a classical pianist and his other Aunt Phoebe who was a blues singer produced by the famed African American record producer, Clarence Williams.  They fell in love and had a child together…but the project was never completed because of his sudden death.  These women inspired Harris to become a musician and this album honors them and others who have influenced him in his life.

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.
